Five years old...how did that happen?

Happy 5th birthday, Spencer! Wow...time flies. In some ways it seems like yesterday that Spencer was a newborn and now he's an amazing kid that loves his little sister, his friends, and burning energy in typical five year old boy ways - riding his bicycle (without training wheels!), playing golf, swimming.

It's been a really fun summer for us. The kids fell in love with Missy Franklin (see below) and spent lots of time at the pool (and sporting their goggles/swim caps around town). Shoshi is now 2-1/2 and has a great spirit, a large vocabulary (with lots of ways to boss Jon and I around), a new love of ballet (pic also below), and a big admiration of her brother. We have had lots of fun watching our two kids hang out together.

In many ways this has been one of our most relaxing summers. We started our summer visiting Jon's family in South Dakota and we are headed to New York in a few weeks to see my family, but we had little travel during the main summer months which gave us lots of pool time. For us that is like a vacation every weekend (think cocktail in hand while hanging poolside). We spent a few weekends here and there in the mountains which was also great family time.

We are all finally in great health after some random summer illness. Poor Shoshi was speckled with hives for a copule of weeks. I spent several weeks (and a still lingering cough) with bronchitis (which finally came to a head during a 1/2 marathon I ran at 8,500 feet...MISERABLE!!!) and then after having stomach issues and no appetite for almost two months I found out I have acid reflux (which thankfully is very treatable and instantly goes away with medication). It made for a tough time trying to marathon train but somehow I kept it up and I now I feel like a million bucks. I'm still on target for my November marathon in Santa Barbara and with my appetite back in check running has been really fun.

Jon and I celebrated our eight year anniversary a few weeks ago which also makes us wonder where time goes. We had a great date day last Thursday...we took the day off and golfed all day with a friend of ours and then went to the botanic gardens concert at night to see Bruce Hornsby. Fun times together!
